DaftRyosuke’s Silver Seraph post reminded me I needed to post this amazing promo video from the Silver Spirit/Mulsanne introduction.
It even has the Rolls-Royce of early
80s synthesizer soundtracks. Enjoy, fellow owner/drivers.

Back when I was a kid and these were current model cars, I really had a thing for them. Even today, the first thing I think of when I see one is this:
Or this:
Not sure if I would take one for free today, though.

Nice video, shame the transfer from the film is TERRIBLE. Nice driving also

I think modern rolls royces are way more competitive than in the 80s.

Those tires were absolutely begging for death.

It just goes to show that if you have enough time and money taking on someone else’s project can work out fine.

LOL - This is my and my wife. Except I am Hyacinth.

Yep, Cannonball Run had it right - metallic blue with the darker everflex roof is
the
best scheme for an 80s Rollers.
I still think peak car casting is Hyacinth and Richard driving a Rover 200.
I think I’d take one for free, the drivetrain is bulletproof if you can figure out the ancillaries
.

Fair warning, s
aying you’re “admiring the quality” in a Maserati or Alfa dealership will get a tresspassing citation.

The noise alone is worth whatever Jay paid for it.

Technically yes, but I think they are overly garish. Older RR’s have a certain understated presence that the company really hasn’t duplicated since the Seraph.
And a
nyone can buy a new Rolls-Royce. Only the truly successful can afford to maintain a vintage one...

Ha at least those sweet 80s beats transferred over pretty well.
I was frankly shocked at how well the car did when driving at 10/10ths.

I remember in that movie, there were some good interior shots too, especially showing the unique headliner. That really caught my eye - I already knew a R-R was special, but that car just seemed to do it right. I also recall the first time I saw one of that era, a light yellow on tan (not the best combo) example around 1987.
The Rover 200, a fine ordinary car with a slightly pretentious badge. It is Hyacinth.
I really fear the brake/suspension system on these, just like I would on a Shadow.

I’ve seen similar said about MBs - it takes cash flow to buy a new one, wealth to maintain an old one.
And I agree about the presence. Even something like a Shadow or Spirit/Spur has 10x the elegance of a new model. The old cars weren’t trying so hard, that was the point.

Yeah the quality of interior materials was just off the charts - from the carpets, to the headlining to the real Connolly leather.
Yeah, I do as well, I’d be less worried if I had lots of garage space. The system is just different, so it’s probably ok if you can do your own work, but nightmarishly expensive to sort at a specialist.

They spared no expense on the trimmings. Sadly, these seem to really decay if neglected, they need climate controlled storage.
I knew a guy who had an early Shadow, lovely original car. Prior owner dumped nearly 10K into the hydraulics, everything now worked perfectly, and still had a hard time getting 15K for it.

Yeah they do need lots of care and feeding. Nevertheless
it’s scary that nice RR’s are 12K cars. Even Bentley Turbos are 15-20K in nice shape...

It really looks great and pretty composed being hooned like that. And yes love the music
